Behavior? Wagging Tail? Have you had a leo drop his tail while handling??

jack7777766 Jun 03, 2003 11:05 AM

Hi,
I was handling my male leo the other day I had him running on the bed and at one point he wagged his tail from side to side slowly, what is this. Im still very paranoid about my leos loosing their tails so any tail movement scares me (dont want one of those light bulb regrown tails).

PS. Those of you who have had their leos drop their tails while handling, is there anything they do before it?? anyway to know hes probably gonna drop it??

Thanks
Jack

When a leo, male or female, wags their tail from side to side slowly it means they feel threatened. It is a warning. "Stay Away, I'm scared, and p-o'd." If you see this behavior, it is time to gently put your leo back in it's enclosure where it feels safe.

Never grab a leo by the tail. If you avoid doing that, and house your leos individually, and don't breed them, you are very unlikely to have one drop its tail.

once some dumb girl opened my cage slightly without my knowledge and my female climbed to the top of her cage and tried to get outta the crack. I heard some noise and I ran in to see her hanging downwards just holding on by her tail. It was stuck in the door. This was a few months ago and she has yet to drop it.

I guess my point is that leos tails wont drop as easily as say Anoles or Ground Skinks.

I thought it would drop so much easier, Ive barelly rubbed my leos tail Im so afraid of it falling, I probably still wont grab it by the tail but at least I wont worry so much.

I love the diference of the texture between the tails andd the body. The tails seem kinda mushy and soggy (OK I dont know how to describe it LOL)
But I love it
