Platinum and/or Lesser Platinum

karleton Dec 16, 2003 08:31 PM

I am absolutely new to the Ball Python world but have been reading and looking at all the color morphs out there. It is exhausting for a newbie like me but I'm not giving up, lol.

I would like to know if anyone can tell me what the difference between a platinum and a lesser platinum is and where can I see pics of both morphs. I noticed that female ball pythos are a lot more expensive than males so I would probably look to buy a male first of whatever morph I decide on and I would be considering a platinum or lesser platinum if they look as good as the name sound. Anyone can point me in the right direction for pics and availability?

Thanks,
Karleton

Ralph Davis Reptiles, is a good place to see them. Look in his breeding records.

The expensive snakes also. I hope you know what you're getting into.

You can see pics of the Platinum and Lessers on Ralph Davis's site....www.ralphdavisreptiles.com...he was the one to import the first and only Platinum, and it produces the Lesser Platinums...it also popped out a few Leucistics this year as well. These snakes are outragously expensive though. He doesn't let many of them go either. I've seen Lesser Platinums for sale at shows for up to $50,000. If you're just getting into the hobby and have the money for that, more power to you. I personally don't have that...lol. If you're looking into getting into the morph world Pastels or Hypos are probably the cheapest morphs as of now and are quite beautiful as well. You can just look around for more options and prices and see what you like. There is always time.

I am still lauging. Thank you guys for all the info and help and, although I was ready to drop serious cash, I was not ready to drop that much. Caught me by surprise but certainly shows that I am a true newbie.
Definitely the platinums/lesser platinums are out of the question for a long time.

I started with hets for albino, pied, and ghost. You can get into them cheap.(compared to plattys) I will hopefully produce some morphs this season.
