My first BP and have a feeding Question

ecliff212 Jun 03, 2003 11:23 AM

I have just got my first BP and after giving him 2 weeks in the new home to get adjusted, feeding time has come. I have 2 corns and feed them f/t and would love to have the BP eating f/t also. The breader "told me" never seen with my own eyes, that he has ate 2 times - live fuzzies. I was going to try to get him to eat a f/t (and use live as a last resort) but not sure about the best way to approch it. I was thinking of heating to see if the heat and smell would triger feeding, or should I put him the the dark so he might feel a bit safer? Would watching him be a good starting point good to see how picky of a eater he is or just stress him out more?

Any comments or advice is welcome and appericated

Thank you in advance to all who post

Eric

I would definatly warm the prey up to a good temp first. I do this by placing the prey in a bucket of hot water for about an hour or so. This gets it nice and warm for the snake. Some snakes will gradually come over and eat the prey, but I have some who will only eat if I move the prey around, as if it were alive. Also doing this in a dark room can be helpful. Usually snakes who take live a few weeks very quickly, will do the same to frozen, but some never switch.
Good Luck, Jason

I was told that the first 2 feedings that he went right after the live, I'm hoping that the warm prey will be enough.
