My anole

theHerman Dec 16, 2003 10:12 PM

I have a question about mine, I recently bought a Green, and I notice he stays brown for the most part unless hes sleeping with all the lights off, and that there is some sort of white crust on his nostril. Any help with identification/treatment will much appreciated. Thanks

The white crust is salt deposits probably, if it looks like it could be anything else your anole needs to see a vet.

Go to the anole caresheet through Kingsnake and see if you're doing everything right. Lighting, temps, etc. because it could be a sign of stress that your anole is usually brown.

Thanks for the advice, but I'm wondering, should I remove the crust and if so what would be the best way about going about it? Thanks again

The anole will rub it off on a branch or something on his own. You'll stress him out more trying to mess with his face and remove it. There's nothing harmful if it's just salt deposits. Mine get them all the time (which I think is due to the water softener I have installed in my house that uses salt to purge and clean the filters.)

On a side note, I have one green anole (m) that was always a light shade of brown, even though the temps/humidity were perfect, he ate great, had lots and lots of live plants and limbs to hide around....

It wasn't till I caught the little booger to clean out the tank and put him in a 32 oz deli cup that he turned the brightest green and stayed that way the entire time he was in the cup. No extra heat or light or anything. And promptly turned brown again when I released him back in to his habitat. Go figure.
