Brumation...

RepGirl Dec 16, 2003 10:15 PM

So does brumation happen with all beardies, even younger ones? My dragon is about 7 months old, isn't that too young to be brumating? Is there anything else that could be causing his appetite to be lessened? He looks thin, and acts sluggish.

And just to prevent responses of the same questions over and over again... His temperatures are perfect, I've been giving him a supply of greens, pellets, waxworms, and crickets, which he only eats a few of the bugs or none at all; doesn't touch the salads. I've been misting regularly, and soaking too (although I haven't noticed him drinking any of the water, so maybe dehydration is at fault here). I'm sure I'm doing everything correct, so could there be any explanation other than brumation or parasites?

I'm taking him to the post office tomorrow to be shipped back home overnight, I'm worried he won't make it. Does anyone know what the chances are of him arriving alive and well tomorrow, with the state that he's in now? I'm going to be heart broken if I lose him. So sad...

7 months is very young to be brumating. Although, my beardie is brumating right now, at the age of 9 months... They usually don't brumate until their second winter though. Also, they look healthy when brumating, and they don't loose much, if any, weight.

I would definitly not ship you beardie anywhere in this state, until you are sure that he isn't sick. The shipping can be very stressful for a beardie, and I can't even imagine how bad it must be for a sick dragon to be shipped around! I've always been told that you should never ship other than strong, healthy beardies.

I'm sorry, but I haven't read any of your previous posts... Have you been to the vet yet? If not, you should definitly do so. Diagnosing a beardie through a web-forum is practically impossible.
