No. Some of the Under Tank Heaters have a thermostat built in to them. Some of them just put out a constant level of heat. Running it through a thermostat isn't going to raise the heat level it generates. In fact, theremostats really work sort of the opposite of that, in that they control how much heat a heating device can deliver. In other words, If you are using Flex-Watt heat tape and just plug it straight into the wall with no controls, it will produce a constant heat level. Let's say, for instance, it heats to a constant 120 deg F. That's too much heat for a snake, so you would put a thermostat in the circuit and adjust it so that when the area where you place the probe gets to 90 deg F, the thermostat turns off the heat tape. When the temperature of the area where the probe is located falls to about 88 deg F, the thermostat will turn the heat tape back on until it gets back up to 90 deg F.
