Heating a 44 Gal Pentagon

Israel68 Dec 17, 2003 08:36 AM

I just bought a 44 Gal Pentagon for a tokay gecko that I'm getting. The top that comes with the tank is plastic that has two slots with glass for lights and a little flip lid door.

I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to heat this thing. I'm afraid the the heat from the light will melt the plastic.
Have had one to many close calls with lights melting plastic.

I guess I could go out and get some plexglass and make a whole new top for this tank, but I'd really prefer if I could use what came with the tank.

I think you're going to wind up having to build a new lid anyway. That lid doesn't seem to let enough air flow through the cage. I'd just build one with half plexiglass and half tough plastic coated screening. You can lay a night bulb or ceramic hear emitter on the screen or suspend one above it with no problem.

Have fun!

After having the tank setup since thursday I've come to the same conclusion. It's so humid in the tank that it condenses on the glass. And i just cann't figure out how to get a lamp on it to heat the inside air.

Can plexglass withstand having a 60 or 75 watts lamp sitting directly on it.

I've always done full screen tops.

I'm thinking of just making this top entirely out of plexglass. And drilling 1/8" holes in it for air flow. Starting out with a few and seeing how it is, and adding more if needed.

Oh... side question here does anyone know where I can get Heat tape locally in Buffalo, NY.

Thanks in advance,
Israel
