Color Change Question

bast Dec 17, 2003 01:54 PM

How much does color change from hatchling to adult? Could a drab looking juvi with good color in its background turn into a screamer adult?

Thank you,

Brian

I just got my first dragon yesterday!

Foster is from Chris Allen www.jerseydragons.com, and was from his redflame X red Sandfire breeding. Chris still breeds Fosters dad Flame, but no longer the female Foster was from. He sure was a surprise to me. At the time I got Foster Chris had already sold most of Fosters clutch mates, so I'm sure lots of dragons were chosen over him for lots more money too. I'm pleased with how he turned out. Like you said proper care, and housing UVB, and good food goes a long way. He grew to a whopping 23 inches and around 735grams. Candy another dragon I bought from Chris was from a one time breeding, and is even more full bodied orange, but I paid a lot more for her, and she was a screamer as a baby as well. Foster shows the huge change that takes place from baby to adult age much better then her. I'm hoping to breed Foster and Candy in the spring if everything works out like I plan. I'm so excited to see how their babies look, and turn out as adults.

Rieko who posts on here had a somewhat normal looking hatchling turn out to be one of the redest best looking dragons I've ever seen. Many people are working with bloodlines that gain more color with each shed and into adulthood somewhat. It can also go the other way though. You can have a really colorfull hatchling and by the time it is six months the color is really faded or gone all together.

Also, the conditions the dragon is kept in can effect color as well. UVB lighting is very important to the overall health and color of a dragon. Other things can effect the color too. Such as stress from sickness or not enough to eat, shipping or moving to a new place or enclosure, not having the right supplements or veggies for vitamins and also if he doesn't have the right temperatures for basking and such..... The best way you can hope for more color is make sure he is taken care of properly with diet, lighting, correct temperatures and supplementation.

if you need info on the care got to beautifulldragons.com or there is also a care sheet at www.dacui.com or many of the breederes here have websites with care sheets. Hope this helps.

That's kind of deceptive as the 6 month old looks like it is in shed and would look duller. But great looking dragon anyhow!
