Placement of cage

oSmittyo Dec 17, 2003 02:31 PM

Hello,

I'm on my 6th month of research into Chams before trying to keep one myself (I want to make sure I do it right from the start). I plan on building a cage myself (same as I did for my bearded dragon) and wanted to know if it is ok to build one that is partially in front of a window, and partially not. The cage will be completely screen, and I will not have access to the window to open or close it if I build the cage there (it will be a large cage, so I won't be able to move it much once built).

I know that it is typically good to get your chams some sun, but I don't know if any of the "good" sun is blocked by the window. These are typical clear class windows without any type of filiment(sp?) or screen on them (like on car windows).

Any thoughts?

The glass....whether tinted or not, will block out the UVB you want coming through. Having the cage by the window, with the window closed won't help you get UVB. You will still need UVB bulbs.

You'll also have to watch the cage temps...in the summer it might overheat and in winter might be cold. The general light will be nice, but wraithy is right...you won't get much of any needed UV.
