safe water bowl cleaner

Carlton Dec 17, 2003 05:05 PM

Hi,

I have a fairly large (clumsy) rock water bowl my bp really likes. It doesn't fit in the dishwasher or sink very well, so I am looking for a safe method to clean it while in the terrarium from day to day. I usually remove water, pour in hot water, flush it again and wipe down before filling again. What cleaner/disinfectants do you use that won't build up residue in the bowl's surface or leach into the fresh water? Nolvasan? Quatricide? Roccal? I am leery of bleach solutions and detergents. Luckily no other animals use it, just the one bp.

Once a week I clean (hot soapy water) and disinfect (soak for at least 15 minutes in Nolvasan) my BPs bowl. Throughout the week I just empty the bowl, rinse, spray with Nolvasan, wipe and refill.

Thanks! I wasn't sure if Nolvasan was OK to do this with.

Yep, it's safe. I also use it to clean the cage, carpet and deco. It's even safe to get on your snake. It's used as a wound rinse, mouthwash, etc in reptiles. No worries with it.

I rinse my BP's water dish out with hot water. Then I put a drizzle of Anti-Bacterial dish soap in the dish, and scrub for a couple of minutes with a clean sponge.
