What does tail rot look like?

peanutbuttermdc Dec 17, 2003 05:28 PM

I have had a mali for about a year, and she was wild-caught. She did not shed well the first time, and never shed her tail. Now she is trying to shed again, except her tail looks like it is rotting or something. She is losing her spikes, and the whole thing just looks awful and painful for her. Is this tailrot instead? I have soaked her before to help her loosen shed, but I have always used a hair-dryer to get her tail dry. But I am really concerned for her. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the picture. That is what she had for sure. I called Doug Dix for more info about what to do about it since I originaly bought her from him earlier this year (and because he is basically the "Uro God" in my eyes). I had put neosporin on it yesterday and today he told me that is what I should do, or ask the vet for silvadene (sp?) which is just a stronger neosporin. So today the vet gave me that for her. Thanks for the help!
