Questions regarding Hots in California and other questions inside..

jusmebabe Dec 17, 2003 06:04 PM

I have been interested in getting a hot (type not sure of yet) for sometime. I have had a hard time getting info on legality of owning one in California (Monterey County). I contacted Fish and Wildlife but haven't heard back.
I saw a site in the classifieds saying what state allows what and if permits are needed. It said you could own only Ca. native with out permit (i beleive 1-2) and exotics with permit only.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

I was interested in a species that stays small. Can anyone point me in the right direction on proper housing and precautions needed?
If you live in Ca. and can offer help it would be much appreciated..

You will have to catch a venomous snake yourself, in California, if you wish to stay legal. It sound's like it will be quite a drive if you want anything aside from C. v. oreganus.

Thanx for the info. The lady from fish and game said something about that today. I didn't remember exactly so here is my question. Can they not be purchased from inside Ca. and still be legal or do i have to go snake hunting in the spring?
Thanx for your help..
