I bred my 1999 female for the first time last year. Mating was regular through March. In early May, she looked like she had swallowed a fat hamster for over a week, then the swelling diminished. I thought I must have missed the 24 hour ovulation and that egg development was beginning. She didn't lay her eggs until July 4th, indicating that early May would have been her ovulation. The mid-body swelling associated with ovulation that is supposed to last 24 hours or less lasted over a week! The 6 eggs were perfect, huge (114g each) and produced 6 perfect 80g babies on Sep 1st. I've paired her with a small male this year, don't know if they'll mate. If they do, I'll be curious to see if ovulation is "normal" this season.
