what exactly is a "bullseye" sinaloan?

JCam01 Dec 17, 2003 08:26 PM

Hey
I recently purchased a 03 hatchling sinaloan from a local petstore. I've owned milksnakes before and have to admit sinaloans are perfect temperament wise (or at least mine is) . anyway, I recently saw a post in the classifieds selling a "bullseye" sinaloan. Looking at the picture, I noticed some of the bands didnt completely encircle the snake's body in some photos, instead abruptly ending halfway around...i'm assuming this is the bullseye reference. My hatchling snake has 3 bands that do that. I assumed it was just a genetic defect or something (not all snakes have perfect bands), but it looks identical to what I saw as "bullseye." Is there some sort of rule for what defines this trait, and is it heritable or individual variation caused by some defect?

Thanks for the help

This is what I would consider a Bullseye albino nelson.
As you can see the banding is raised off the belly and no longer makes rings.
The Sinaloan for sale on Kingsnake has a Bullseye pattern AND is a little aberrant like your snake. There are many types of aberrancies in sinaloan and nelsoni. Some are genetic and some are not.
I would like to hear more on the subject. There are a lot more people around these groups that know more on the subject.

Hey
So what u r saying is that the incomplete bands is defined as abberancy and the bullseye pattern is defined as banding that doesn't completely encircle the snake, but remains on the dorsal surface only. That seems logical. okay, my next question is how many bands must display the abberancy/bullseye pattern for the snake to have that title? I'm just wanting to figure out what my snake is. I appreciate your answer and hope others on here that know more about this like u said will talk too.

Peace
