Cockroach question...

Justin M Dec 17, 2003 09:35 PM

I am deciding between madagascar hissers and death heads. I keep death heads now but saw what i thought was a pretty good deal on hissers. How much is a good deal? I am feeding a male panther if that helps and the adult death heads seem to be too big. Thanks in advanced

If death heads are too big, then hissers are going to be WAY too big. They'll get up to 4 inches long. I like them at around 1" long for my larger panthers and veileds. Much bigger than that and I let them grow up and breed. I don't know what I would consider a good deal since I've never bought them in bulk, but I would think if you could find some adults for less than a dollar each that it was a good price. If you buy hundreds of them it should be alot less than $1 each. I got 15 or 20 for $1.50 each here in town and let them do their thing. 1.50 for adults isn't a bad price if you're only buying a few of them. Get 1 male to every 3-4 females if you get to decide.

I would go with death heads. Hissers are big and hard. You can always feed your death head juvis to your chameleon.
Just curious where you got them.. Havne't seen any fopr sale..

got my death heads at the reptile show in indianapolis,IN. They are fairly cheap. about 20 cents a roach. Also, if you are looking for the death heads, check out the insect classifieds. a guy is selling 100 for $30. Thanks, I guess I will stick with my death heads and just go down to the show and buy some more now that I think I know what I am doing and will try not to kill em off this time

OH, I didn't check their prices. Did you have a problem with reptile Depot? I order supplies from them. Hmmm...I do sort remember considering boycotting them but don't recall why...?

Lol your funny lele.
I had a problem regarding a light fixture i had shipped to me. The thing had wires hanging and looked like someone ripped the wires apart and stuck it in a box.
I notified them and they had the you know whats to say we'll have to charge a restocking fee..
That was after they sent me a pair of jax in which the male died i beleive 1-2 days after arrival.. Of course i didn't get anything for that so i figure getting burned 2X is enough from me lol.. It'sa funny when i go to the Reptile show in San Mateo i avoid them like the plague..
See what you did, made me tell the whole bloody story again lol..

Ha-Ha! Now I DO remember the story. I also remember have an offline chat with John (cham paradise) about them as well.

I have had GREAT success with them re: supplies and then ordered crix as well. The packaging was nice and tight on everything. When I ordered a light strip it was supposed to come with Repti-Glo 2.0 for free. I figured I could use it for the geckos. Well, when I got the order they had put the repti-sun 5.0 (that I had ordered) in the fixture and didn't have my FREE bulb. I called, spoke with Larry and he was very nice and shipped me out my freebie the next day - no additional charges as it was thier mistake and he owned up to it.

I think I was upset about their herps esp. some R. brevi's they were selling, thus my potential boycott. Hmmm...I'll have to revisit this issue. Sometimes a conscience can make life difficult...

How come they didn't take responsibility for the Jax????

I guess they didn't wanr repeat business lol.
You know how some places say they can't control what happens after they ship. I guess i gave him proper temps and fed him gutloaded crix and water which shocked his system being properly cared for lol.
Oh well that was 3 years ago but i remember.. Besides i had just descovered kingsnake and now i usually buy from private parties..
