best substrate for rattlesnake cage?..

what would be the best bedding/substrate for a northern pacific rattler's cage?..

newspaper?.. aspen?.. sand?..

I've always preferred newspaper. Its main disadvantage is appearance. If you are not displaying your animals, that should not be a concern. It is cheap, easy to replace when dirty, easy to see that it's dirty, & will not be swallowed by a feeding snake. I have been told that the colored inks may be toxic, so just use the black.
