Ive been out hunting probably 10 times, 8 of which were on 277, and all i mustered out there was a mexican long nose snake. The other two times I went, i went out on highway 90 past langtry. The first night, within 30 minutes we found a baird's rat snake and got rained out. the next time i went, we found an emoryi, two alterna, about a 3 foot light phase and a 2 foot dark fase, a trans pecos rat snake, a black tail rattlesnake and a texas rat snake. i guess i just had a lucky night, ive just always had the now apparent misconcpetion that grey bands aren't that uncommon.

p.s. I have a mountain of questions to ask on this forum, so i hope i don't get too annoying, but i guess the worst that can come from it is some conversation on this relativly quiet forum.

your questions ). It IS luck, perseverance, the right timing, the right area, some knowledge and maybe all combinations of all of the above at one time. Then when you least expect it...BAM, even sometimes. There are far more people on these forums that have found more then me. I have found 3-4 in one trip then not ANY for the next 4-5 years. But I have been persistent in trying one area for the past 8 or so years. Also I got to tell you that I'm not a big fan of alterna though and I hunt the venomous as well as the milks and the odd looking subocs. any alterna that i find, I consider only as bonus. Heck, of the past several trips I was on a photo taking event and checking into some property for sale. Many people will tell you ( as i feel ), it is somewhat of a draw to be down there. By draw I mean, relaxing, spiritaul, a get-away-from-it-all type scenario. Also it might be something as a still wild and one of the last remote ( not as much as it use to be though )areas left.

Then why????

Cause there ain't nothin' better than hunting snakes in central or west Texas with good friends and or family.

And, if you happen to see what your hearts desire is... all the better.
