Bibron's Geckos - Need UV?

lovelyleopards Dec 18, 2003 03:24 PM

Getting conflicting information on this from care sheets. I'll be receiving a pair of these tomorrow as a substitute for another species I wanted. As I was firming up caresheet info, I ran a cross a few that said UV necessary. Is it? The general consensus of the caresheets was that they need a semi-tropical environmnet. Agreed? Thanks!

Bibrons geckos are nocturnal so can do without uv lighting, but people tend to say they (nocturnal species) need uv as they would absorb small amounts it in the wild when they come out at dawn/dusk or to bask. seeing as bibrons are an african species, im guessing they will need large amounts of light in there set up. having uv probably helps boost it up. it's really up to you on whether you use a uv light. if you do, make sure it only emits low levels of uv, and only have it on a few hours a day. its not essential like the uv is to day geckos where they die without it.
