It depends how tame and how you keep them, temps, etc., but these guys are lot like racers. They have a lot going for them and make very interesting captives, holding their value too, but I'm becoming more and more convinced they are related to the racers. In 2002, Helfenberger proposed they be split into a resurrected genus, Zamenis, along with E. longissima, persica, hohenackeri, and lineata. IMO, these are all racer-like ratsnakes for various reasons.
I hatched out a clutch of four last summer of the leopard snakes and they were the cutest little buggers and very snappy. Every time I would try to pick one up I'd get nailed. That's not the case with E. guttata, or many other ratsnakes, LOL. I'll be anxious to see if hohenackeri is like situla when the first of those are hatched out.
