Size and price questions.

How big do male jungles get? Can you you keep them between 4 and 6 feet by feeding them less often like they would in the wild? Can you find pet quality jungles or Irian Jayas for under $100?

Sure you can keep a Male Jungle that size thats about what the average is for a Male Jungle. Can you find a good Irian Jaya for 100? Sure I did, but I got very lucky too and I am sure mine was one of the better of the clutch, and I dont think its as good as one that runs you 150-200. Usually if you are paying a higher price for Jungles or IJs you are doing so because you will get a superior animal. Find a reputable breeder and ask around. I would wrather pay the price now, then pay the price later.

I don't think that stunting is the best way to go. It would be better to try to locate a smaller adult pair and buy a baby produced from them. That would allow for better odds of getting something smaller. They don't normally get over 6 foot and for that matter a male would really reduce your chances of great size. As for under $100 you would be pretty lucky to find one for that amount, but then again you never know.

If I were you I would buy a baby and put them on a "maintenance" diet. Nearly all captive animals are overfed, sometimes to the point of being discusting... Just be sure you're not short changing the animal...it has a right to be fed. If you buy a newborn, it will be incredibly tiny, and take quite some time to grow unless you're stuffing it. I've had my two jungles for several years now, and both are still under 6'. (and the female is a '97 and the male is a 2000 and they each usually eat a large rat every few weeks...if either of them passes 6, it won't be by much)

Also, the prices of the four jungles I've owned were $35, $45, $75, $125. The $125 one was highlighter yellow, and I ended up selling him less than a year after I purchased him for $400. The $75 female is nice and bright yellow, but has speckled some...I still wouldn't let her go for less than $350. The other two (a female I traded for a gtp, and a male I still have) are/were nice looking average carpets. If you want an incredible animal, buy it from an enthusiest who will charge you what it's worth. If you just want any jungle...you can easily find one for under $100 at any reptile show. Possibly as low as I did ($35).
