K. Loves Debt of Education

jcherry Dec 19, 2003 04:09 AM

As I was reading the response that Kathy Love wrote below on a question about keeping more than one snake in a cage I got to thinking about the reply.

She is I am sure as busy or busier than any of us are, but she took the time to explain with a good in Depth answer to an honest question from someone new to this hobby relatively speaking. Why would be a fair question to ask? She like so many of the rest of us that have been in this hobby for many years have answered that same question many times before. And I am sure that she like so many others that love this hobby will answer it again many more times.

I really think we all need to understand that when we fail to educate the newbies and less experienced folks in this hobby with a smile on our face and honest answers on our lips. We have really failed in many ways.

Further speaking for myself the reason I do answer the same questions over and over is a futile attempt to pay off my own debts of education. I know that the folks that took the time to answer my stupid and yes sometimes repetitive questions for the past 35 years probally wondered if I would ever learn anything. I did and eventually realized that new folks in this hobby are the life blood of the hobby and one of the aspects of it that really makes it a joy to be involved in.

Personally I would like to thank folks like Kathy, Don and all the others for taking that same approach and for sharing the knowledge they have been taught and learned over the years.

Additionally I hope the folks that have a tendency to jump on mistakes that new folks make would instead try to educate and help to get started on paying their own personal debts.

Merry Christmas All,

John Cherry

All those wonderful people like Kathy, Don, Walter and others (that names don't immediately come to the top of my head), have always freely given of their knowledge out of love of the ownership of snakes. They do not 'hoard' their knowledge but share it willingly so others can enjoy the ownership, breeding and that love of snakes.
I would like to personally thank them for always answering the questions put their way with curtesy and 'a smile'.

And
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE!!!!

I agree with you completly. I even recall YOU giving me advice! And I am sure I will be back for more answers as questions arise. Meanwhile; I will try to make an effort to wonder in here a little more often and return the debt I owe. Thanks!

Merry Christmas!

I don't post much on any forums, because usually my questions are ignored,(which I feel is just as bad as being slammed) or I feel that people will get an "attitude" with me when I do ask a question. I do alot of reading and learning from the experienced people on the forums, and they have been a big help to me.
I will be the first to admit that I am a "newbie" having only had my collection for a year or so, and as my signature says I am always learning. Don, Kathy, Walter, Mike, and some of you others have been a great help in my experiences so far. I may not have talked with you directly, but your posts are informative and educating to me. Thank you.
Happy Holidays!!!!!!!

I'm a little older than many of you and remember well a time when we didn't have computers or a forum to go to. I can even remember when there was no Reptiles magazine and the only print to read was the green newsletter from Glades Herp.

This forum is a great place to share information and to learn about our hobby. It's the great people here that make it all work. I am really glad to see an open helpful atmosphere here. It is not like that on many of the other forums.

I'm not going to mention names because I don't want to leave anyone out but thank you all. Thank you.

I remember one of my first questions about breeding. It was 8 or 9 years ago and I asked you about breeding a couple of kings. Being a real newbie, I asked you about breeding a cal king and a florida king. LOL You set me straight about hybrids. Over the years you have answered my emails and offered your help and knowledge. You set an example and one I try to follow. I guess that's my way of paying my debt for the education I have received from you, Kathy, and Don.
Just want to say thanks for the education and reminding me continue sharing what I have learned and what has been shared with me.
Thanks
John Q

and thank you to everyone who helps us learn more about this interest we all share. I was just mentioning last night to my BF how lucky I felt to be able to get online and have dialogue with the 'greats' of snake breeding. I know a ton more today than I did 4 years ago when I started with one adult snow corn and I'm still learning...

I know I am grateful that I found Kingsnake and the Corn Snake forum (I actually discovered it through Kathy's book in the acknowlegments). I have learned a great deal, the people are great (and some of them make you roll in laughter at their twisted sense of humor). I have seen the most beautiful pictures of corns, heard some very funny, educational and enlightening stories have have recieved a good deal of excellent advice from not only my questions, but reading others as well.

Thank you Kathy, Don, Rich and everyone else (Gargoyle for his sense of humor)for everything on here.
