Would like ETB, but....

Tigergenesis Dec 19, 2003 09:06 AM

the price and aggressiveness seem to suggest I need to consider another species. I'd love a strictly arboreal species like the ETB - what else is there (other than a green tree python) that is popular in the pet trade?

I'm thinking of an ATB, but my understanding is they are not totally arboreal - is this correct? If so, I'm wondering how much time do they spend on the ground compared to up high?

I don't mind having a species that I can't handle often, it's just dealing with the agression when trying to clean the cage, etc.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My babies spend almost all their time in the branches, the adults spend about 50% in the air and 50% on the ground.

It allot of times depends on the snake, my 6 foot female spends about 90% of her time on the floor, but my 5 foot male will never come down, not even to check out the female below him.

Dont count on finding a taim amazon tree boa, every one talks about owning a taim one, but they still have there aggressive nature and can not be trusted. I have a taim little baby red halloween phase, but when he gets cranky he will still snap at me. How ever, get a good snake hook and start out with a baby and as long as you dont mind there requirments (spelling?) you shouldent have a problem. Just besure to really resurch there needs, they are allot diffrent then any ball python or sand boa.

Any how,
Good luck,

Who told you that ETB's are aggressive? We have 18 animals in our main collection and I have never been bitten cleaning cages. As a matter of fact I have only been bitten twice by adults and both times were my fault for "scaring" them.

The few care sheets I looked at said they were aggressive, so before I continued researching them I thought I'd ask the opinions of 'real people' on this forum - and check what price they go for.

Wow, I must not have read those caresheets. I will agree with them only if they specify agressiveness after the lights go out! LOL I would certainly not put any part of my body in the cage once they have started hunting.
