Hypo tang project

bigdee Dec 19, 2003 12:32 PM

Im new at this so I will need a little help. I just got these 2.1 hypo tangs and 1. regular. All together I have 1.1 regular and 2.1 hypo tangs. With this hypo trio you can see its backwards 2males instead of 2females so I see im going to have to make some type of trade at the next show. Out of the hypo tangs in this pic the first is the female and the 2 following are the males, which should I keep and which should I look to trade and for what should I trade for to make this a really nice project without spending alot of dough. I will be going to The NY show on 1/10/04-

hey, i'll be at the NY Metro show too, mainly because i wanna buy a leo or two to improve my livestock. Can you really trade leo's there? Im not looking for trades, I just want to donate my hi-yellow male to make room for new ones. You think its possible. Well I would choose to keep the orange male you have if I were you, but i guess its personal preference. Latas

Nicer color, looks a little smaller like spots still fading, so may not really be much less hypo than the beige one once it is grown.

Trade at a show? With whom? I highly doubt any breeders would want to take a trade from an unknown, especially for male stock that is likely below the quality of what they are already using for breeders. (they are trying to sell geckos, there is a risk of disease and would have to quarantine in another room if they are smart, and they won't want to sell it at that show because a reputable breeder won't want to sell an animal that could be diseased- it's their health guarantee and reputation that is on the line). You might be able to meet some other buyers there who might trade with you, but you may be met with some suspicion if you just start going up to people and "saying wanna buy/trade for this gecko" and flash them a gecko hidden in your overcoat. If you strike up converstaions with people and bring the subject around naturally you might have better luck. Also, if you plan on doing this you might want to just bring photos, not the gecko- at some shows they require you to show a reciept for any animals when you leave...I don't think they'd view you too kindly if you explained that you were going there to try to sell/trade your gecko without paying table fees. You might have better luck just selling or trading on the free listing site, and if you sell using the money to buy another gecko... or stick with a pair and put the money towards a vet emergency fund.
