I use crickets on occaision but almost exclusively lobster roaches with the ackie and the beardie.
how big doe ackiees get?
They average 16-24 inches. They dont sit still much either, mine has 5 burrows which get dug up backfilled and dug again all of the time. Reminds you of a squirrel, doesnt sit still much. Beside all Ackies here are captive bred.
would they make a good pet fr someone who has bd and looking to get somthing more active?

for someone who has bearded dragons. They're way more active and playful. They're not nasty like how some other monitors are. The perfect alternative to bearded dragons in my opinion.
I have four and they are awesome pets, especially for first time monitor owners. They are not afraid of anything, I can reach in and pet them if I want, nice dispositions, and always busy, digging tunnels, basking and of course, eating! Some day I will be ready for a larger species, but this is a great start for me. Wouldn't trade them for anything!
