? about shedding

spranks Dec 19, 2003 01:03 PM

This will be my snake's first shed since I got him and I have a few questions. I know that I shouldn't hold, feed, etc during shedding. How long should it take for him to shed? His head is starting to look pretty white-ish right now and his eyes a little glazed. As soon as he sheds, then is it fine to pick him up and feed him and stuff?

He will clear up and look remarkably normal, then shed a couple days after that.

I generally don't worry about a shed cycle exept to insure humidity is high. I still offer food, and if they take it great~ if not~ oh well. They are much less likely to take a feed while in shed. I don't really see any reason you can't handle him either~ unless your worried about taking a bite. They are more likely to bite. (You would be too, he can't see so good, and his skin don't fit!)

Good Luck and Merry Christmas!

My ball python takes from 7 to 10 days to complete a shed. If his eyes are a little glazed then watch for them to clear. After clearing it takes another 24-36 hours to complete. As soon as he sheds, feed him, hold him, etc. Bye the way, don't bother him while in shed. They are very vulnerable and nervous during this period, so just make sure the humidity is 70-80%.

I will try feeding mine when she is shedding, but if she refuses, then i get her at the next meal.

mine is blue eyed right now. the tank they just moved into has a screen top so humidity is low so I have been soaking her in warm water to help her out.
