raw food diet question

chinosdad Dec 19, 2003 01:45 PM

I`ll try to keep this short.I am trying to find out if Oma`s pride raw food diet is ok to feed monitors and tegus.I just became a distributor for them(because of my ever-growing Doberman Pincher) Now since I took on 500lbs of this stuff,I figured I would do some research and see if I could make the transition for my monitors(blackthroat & peachthroat) and tegu.
The food is all USDA meats (beef/chicken,lamb etc.)with bone and organ content mixed with fresh vegetables.I do understand that our goal should be to duplicate the natural diet of the animal.I just wanted to see if any one with more experience then me,had any input.Thanks.

With respect to your question I personally would stick to whole food items for my animals. It doesn't sound THAT bad for them, and they'll probably eat it. The veggies might be something that a BT wouldn't like, but I bet they'd eat it. (I'd REALLY stay away from this sort of food with a peachie, but thats my personal feeling they seem alot more sensitive to me. I bet the BT, and the tegu would really like it.) I can't judge as I'm not a professional but those are my feelings.

Doesn't sound like a bad dog food though. How does it work keep it in the fridge?

Anyway here's my Dog. Baron.

Thanks for the input.Thats a great looking dog youve got there.
The food is working out great so far.
Some of the benifits of this diet are:
1. no doggy odor
2. naturally cleans teeth - no need for toothbrushes, de-scaling jobs, or gum disease
3. the time it takes for a dog to chew a raw meaty bones give their stomach adequate time to get the acids moving
4. much less stools produced - and they are firm, and turn chalky after a couple of days
5. Decreased or non-existent vet bills (your dogs are healthier!)
6. less cost for dog food - commercial dog foods are ludicrously expensive
7. mirrors what a dog would be getting in the wild - and certainly even the modern day dog has a digestive tract exactly the same as a wolf
8. Puppies develop at a more appropriate rate - and quick growth spurts are avoided. A GOOD breeder will want to stop fast growth in any pup.
9. The ripping and chewing involved in eating raw meaty bones develops the jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles of the dog. Commercial dog foods will never assist in this important muscle development"
