Does Bed-A-Beast stink?

hsuansterz Dec 19, 2003 01:46 PM

Hey,

I always had a huge interest in horned frogs and I'm thinking of buying one at the West Coast Reptile Show in Orange County (if they have any though). But my biggest problem is the bedding. Does Bed-A-Beast or other coconut fiber substrate stink after a while? Also, do maggots or any other type of bugs grow in the substrate? The tank will proabbly be in my room.

No it doesnt stink, but any substrate you put in an enclosure will harbor small insects if you keep it too moist without proper ventilation.

No-in fact, Bed-A-Beast is the only one that I know of that has no odor. DO NOT use a cheap substitute. There was one product that cost half the price, but get it moist it stank right away and the smell did not go away. I threw it out. I got what I paid for.

BED-A-BEAST is the one and only substrate of its kind that has no odor. It is great stuff!

Naturally if insects die and rot in it, yeah the bugs will stink and will attract flies and maggots, but it has nothing to do with the bed-a-beast.

Change it monthly so that urine does not overly congregate.

It has no odor, as long as you change it every so often and spot-clean any fecal matter. Keeping it slightly dry will prevent fruit flies or mold from growing.
