OMG! I'm very sorry!
He was and still is a vision in herpetology.
I have had the pleasure to meet this man a few times, and he was very nice to me, even when I bugged him constantly about snake questions!

This is a true loss. He was a remarkable herpetologist. My sympathies go out to his family and friends.

What a loss to our community. When other kids had sports figures as heroes, Roger was the one I admired. When he was at the Philly Zoo, he took the time to personally answer a letter from a pesty kid (me) with a zillion herp questions. As recently as 2 years ago he took the time to help me identify an intergrade copperhead in my collection, the photos of which I sent him. I saved is letters, they are a treasure. My only regret is never having gotten the opportunity to meet him. He was like a grandfather to all of us.
What a loss!!
Our condoleances to his family and friends.
With regards

Sad to hear. I met him a time or two. Quite the gentleman. Didn't mind autographing books. I still have his first field guide from the mid '50's.

to the herp community. Roger was truly a legend to this hobby. Hopefully he is wandering through lush forests discovery herps we can only dream of in Heaven.
