Roger Conant, 94, died peacefully in his sleep today at 12:30 am at his home in New Mexico.

He will be greatly missed by the herpetological community.

Roger was friend and a great inspiration who will be missed. I never knew him to dismiss anyone. He would speak to new herpers as well as colleagues about any aspect of life, not just herpetology. I had the best of times with him in the 80's arguing about copperheads, Mexico and just laughing about life and snakes. He taught me a lot about what science means, and to not lose touch with the wonderful animals we study. They are what is important, not a publication or statistic. I enjoyed our visits in Texas, Tucson and New Mexico immensely.
