Roger Conant, 94, died peacefully in his sleep at 12:30 am today in his home in New Mexico.

A real loss of one of the really good guys in this hobby. We will miss you Roger.

I mean absolutly no disrespect in anyway but since im really new to the cornsnake crowd i dont know, who is Mr. Roger Conant.
Is a sad thing to hear when anyone interested in the same thing you are even if you have never heard of, or met. Im sure he will be missed by those who know him. And I dont mean this in a bad way either so please dont take this in the wrong way, at least he went in his sleep with no pain that how i would want to go.

That is what this forum is for is to ask questions and learn. Roger was the curator of the Philly zoo for many years and also was lead professor at the University of New Mexico since he moved there a number of years ago. He was one of the world renown herptologist on the same level if not exceeding the works of Ditmars, Schmidt and Kauffield etc. Below is a quick list of some of his writings that I found in querying his name on one search engine.

Most folks that field collect have used his field guides as a reference book. If you have not read his works and those of Raymond Ditmars and Carl Kauffield you should, it will give you a historical lesson in how far this deal has come in the last 50 years or so. For easy fun reading try Snakes "the keeper and the kept" by Carl Kauffield.

Hope that answers your question.
