RES Not Eating Much

oceanwalker Dec 19, 2003 05:33 PM

Hi,

Is this something to worry about, my RES is not eating much, normally has a huge appetite. Not overfeeding it by any means, at all. Giving it baby ReptoMin (10 pellets with a little shrimp treats, once a day, it's 2 years old), and what's happening is that he is not eating it and it's growing yucky mold on the food he's not eating. What can I use in the tank to keep the water clean (besides changing it weekly)??

Please help, could my RES be sick?

Thx.

I'm not sure if all domestic RES act like this, but I know my 2 male ones do each winter. They basically stop eating! I offer it to them once a week now just to see.. they'll eat a little bit but then ignore it. They don't beg either... sometimes they bask on the rock when it is "cold". And if I put the basking light on them they'll jummp off.. I think they prefer the cold. Sometimes they even sleep on there... and no its not my temp, the water is what it always is like in the summer

I think its just the RES way of behaving differently since they aren't going to hibernate. They don't get skinnier by not eating which is also strange. Oh well it gives me a few months off from cleaning them so I like it
