Bloody shed

seth Dec 19, 2003 06:27 PM

Hi,

My 2 1/2 year old snow corn just shed again tonight and this is the first shed he/she has given me in 2 years that has had any blood on it. Their was just a tiny spot of blood on the right side of the vent. I know its normal, but was just wondering if this occurs in males, females, or both. I'm unsure of the sex of the snake, but for the appearnce of the tail and scale count it appears to be male. So could this be one of the hemipenises(spelling)?

Thanks for your time and responces
Seth

i dont know much about this in corn snakes. but it always happens with ball pythons, and my guess would be it happen to most boids. the small amount of blood come from when the shed comes to the spurs. i dont even know exactly why it happens. i guess they dont shed their spurs and the skin around them actually must rip a little. anyways, corns might not have any visible spurs but they must have something in there. my guess is if the bleeding happens its more likely to be a male. hopefully there will be someone else who can relate this a little more to corn snakes.

I see it in both of my bigger corns. One's male, one's female. I think it's a pretty normal thing, and isn't a good way to determin sex, since it can happen to both sexes.

Thanks,

I have been curious about whether he/she was a boy or girl but no one in my area probes snakes and was hoping that maybe this would tell me. I'm not planning on breeding anytime soon but it would just be nice to knwo for future referance.

Thanks again,
Seth

Get us some good pictures of the vent and tail area and maybe we can help you determine the sex.
