Using wood from trees in aquatic setup...

Chrysemys Jun 03, 2003 04:30 PM

Hey,
I need a large branch or something for my turtles to bask on and was wondering which type of tree would be best? I would bake it before I would put it in my tank to get rid of any nasty bugs. But which would last the longest partially submersed in water? Thanks,
Chris D.

Chris, I would go for cypress. It will last forever especialy against aqu. turts claws. What kind of turts? You can get all kinds of wood and more info from Black Jungle on the main page of kingsnake.. Blue

Well I knew about cypres, its just that I really did not want to have to buy it. I would rather find it then clean it up. So what is a rather durable wood found localy? I would not mind replacing it every month or 2, just not constantly. Thanks,
Chris D.
