Uro Questions

AzLunchbox Dec 20, 2003 11:59 AM

Well noone has yet answered my last post so i figured i'd post those questions again along with some new stuff.
Help would really be appreciated since these are my first Uromastyx and i can't find any sites with specific info on Saharan Uromastyx.....other then pics.

anyways these are the old questions:
since they are mainly vegetarians am i supposed to supplement their vegies? and how often?

also.....they are right now Male: 8 inches and Female: 7 inches
So how big do they get before they are of proper breeding age?

and now new stuff:
Does anone know info on breeding them? what needs to be done....how to care for the eggs.....etc.
Also does anyone have a pic of a gravid Female Sarahan so i can see what she looks like?

Thanks

-Matt-

I also have Saharans. I add a little bit of calcium dust about 3 x week, plus a multivitamin once a week. On the non-dusting days, I do add a little calcium also if I feed peas or something that requires extra.

I don't know anything specific about breeding since I have not bred anything before (uros or otherwise), but my male is about 3 years of age - wild caught - and does not have any breeding scars. He's about 13" STL. So 3-4 years of age they should be of breeding age. If yours are 7" and 8", they are probably about a year old, and you have a few years to go.

The most detailed info I have seen about breeding is on the Deer Fern Farms website: www.deerfernfarms.com.

Sorry your post was unanswered before!
