Three Striped Mud Turtles Question

Doug Dec 20, 2003 06:00 PM

Do Three Striped Mud turles lay eggs all year round in the wild? I have
a group kept inside year round under UV lights and I just found 3 clutches,
(total of 10 eggs), during regular cleaning.
They must have been layed during the last two weeks and this is December.

The answer to your question is yes and no.
In the southern part of their range they lay all year round EXCEPT during the middle of the summer. In other parts of their range they lay throughout most of the year except the middle of the winter. It really depends on where exactly they are from.

In an article recently published by Walt Meshaka, striped muds are found to be most active in October in the Everglades National Park.

So if you are getting eggs now, or recently, they are probably just fine.
