cut burm

pimpbot007 Dec 20, 2003 08:40 PM

i have a 3 foot albino burm and she escaped from her cage today, she now has 2 cuts/ scrapes on her face in front of her eyes, there is dried blood on the cuts now. i dont know if she cut herself during her escape on the lid or the cage, or if she may have gotten bit by my iguana. she was by the iguana cage when i found her. what should i do for her? wash it? disinfect it? let it grow out? i dont want it to get infected or get mouth rot or something? i appreciate your help!

I would definatly disinfect it. Iguanas can carry samonela. I know people put stuff on there snakes when they get bit by rats, try to history some of the posts below and see what people put on it. Also if it was not the Iguana its a good thing to do because the cage its in, even though I know its clean I am sure bacteria sets in.
Thanks

As I went back and looked at the achrived posts and then typed in rat bites, alot of people said neosporan without Pain killer, they said the pain killer had somthing in it that would be a heart stimulant. Anyone here know if that is true.

i would soak the burm ( or at least clean the wound) in a betadine solution. make sure it gets on its face.....then rinse it off. make sure its dry. if possible to keep it out of the eyes, maybe put a little neosporin on the cuts...i would keep that up for a few days or until wounds clear up. maybe keep it in a isolated encloosure for a while also. keep it on paper towel or newspaper so you don't get anything in the cuts ( like bark). main thing is to keep it clean. good luck
