Incubator Question....

turtle96 Dec 20, 2003 09:16 PM

Im going to be breeding box turtles and russian tortoises and was not sure on what kind of incubator to use for eggs? I wanted something digital but was just wondering what other breeders are using?

I think most breeders use Hovabators. I've seen them advertised in Reptiles magazines or you can check out advertisements as well.

You'll need to get two incubators for the turtle and tortoise eggs. They have different temperature and humidity requirements. The cheap Hovabators used for chicken eggs have been used successfully for both box turtle and tortoise eggs. You should have a digital thermometer placed in each one, as well as a humidity indicator.

You'll have to buy quite a bit of equipment at first, but they can be used over and over and will pay for themselves since they will help you produce hatchlings from any viable eggs.
