One of my female spotteds laid 3 eggs last night

spottedturtleman Dec 21, 2003 06:47 AM

She laid 3clutches in the spring totaling 12 eggs. One of the babies in the last clutch was white but it died. Hopefully I will get another from this clutch. I was starting to cool her and was very supprised to see her digging a nest in her waterland tub. I feed all of my adults year round and only lower the temp, and hours of day light. They breed every year without hibernation.I feed the aqua max, rosie reds , romaine and strawberries.

Hello;
I was wondering if you could post photos of your setups ? Thank you

I don't have a digital camera. However I will discribe them. I have 3 females in one small waterland tub. I have 2 tupperware shoe boxes to divide the land part of the tub. One of the shoe boxes has dirt the other sand. I like to give a choice of substrates. The water is only about 5 inches deep with a log for basking and hiding. I use 2 heat lamps and no heaters. I have 2 of these set ups and four 2x3 shoe boxes each with one male per box. My total collection of spotteds are 4 males ,6 females, 10 babies(c.b. 03) and one c.b. 2000 male.

Congratulations! Did your previous clutches hatch well? I'd heard of many failures this year.

Did the blood-shot eye resolve?

spottedturtleman Dec 21, 2003 03:13 PM

I notice that I said 12 eggs in three clucthes, I meant 12 in four . Three clutches in the spring (9 eggs) seven hatched. I opened 2 That were white babies. One lived for about an hour the other was not even close to being fully formed. The blood shot eye is clearing up. I added some tetracycline to the water and it got better. This year I am hoping to have three of my other females lay. (six laying females total)Last year they were a little small so I waited. I am looking to trade some of my c.b.04 babies for some other blood lines if anyone is looking for the same.

You said they were white? Do you mean they were albino, or they were just white?
Michael

They were not albino. The eyes were dark blue, they had no spots, and no red. The limbs and shell were white with a little hint of gray.

Have you ever heard of that happening before?
