are you refering to holaspsis guenthri the blue tailed tree lizard.they are small lizards only growing to 5 inches max.they have a blue kinda spiky tail and the body is black with yellow stripes going from neck to begining of tail and the head is pointed and black. If your not sure if this is it go to google and search images for the scientific name that I gave you.also there are pictures of it in the lizard keepers handbook and reptiles, amphibeans, and invertebrates:an identifacation and care guide.I hope this helps if not I will keep searching.

oh thanx thats just what i was looking for i want to buy them but now i cant find much information online on how to take care of them

nickpurvis Jun 05, 2003 07:20 PM

well Ive never kept them but have always wanted to.heres the info I have.

range:south africa
adult size 4-5 inches
terrarium size:1-4 can fit in a 15 gallon high, provide several diagonal or vertical 3-6 inch diameter tree limbs and if possible with loose bark wich they can hide under.
terrarium type:dry savanna;semiaridland
social structure:do not keep males together but a male with several females do well
diet:certain fruit baby food, fruit honey day gecko mixture, but mostly samll insects including pin head crickets
water:they drink dropplets wich means they must be misted once or twice a day

I got all this info from a book I have called
reptiles, amphibeans, and invertebrates:an identifacation and care guide

hope this helps and good luck with these cool little lizards.

that helps alot but do you know what their temps need to be ,do they need it hot, warm, average, cool erm i assumeing they'll probly need the same temps as my dune gecko, i dunno maybe i'll just play around with it and see what they seem to like, lol or just maybe the petstore guy will know

nickpurvis Jun 05, 2003 09:13 PM

Id assume warm since they live in south africa but the guy in the pet shop should know.

yeah i know he should, but i dont thnk he does, he has them set up on this big blocky sand with a little peice of bark and a plastic plant lying on the ground. im already setting up a 20-25(not sure) gallon tall for them i think they'll be happy lizards

how long has it been? ,its completely normal for the tail to shed weeks after the head and body, i think it has to do with the shape and thickness of the scales, sometimes by the time mine sheds his tail he's already starting on the head again
