HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok Just yesterday i put a stick into my wtf enclosure that i took off a tree from out side. I didnt soak it or bake it or any of that because i live in canada and it is like -5 out so i figured it would be ok. Just this morning i noticed little tiny bugs in the tank about an eigth of an inch long. As soon as i noticed that i took the stick out of the tank A.S.A.P. But after looking at the tiny bugs very closely i noticed that there resemblence to a cricket was uncanny, so do you people think that it is just councidense that baby criskets were born the day after i put the stick in the tank or could this be some sort of bug from outside? Also i took one of the little bugs that fell in the water and looked at it through a microscope and it looked like a cricket but im still not sure what to do should i take the frog out of the tank or leave him or wat should i do please help me

Many insect eggs can lay dorment in the winter months awaiting the warmth so that they can hatch. There is a good chance this is what happened.

However, it is always best to sterilize any new item being placed into an existing enclosure. Not only because of bugs, but also harmful parasites and possible pesticides.

Take the stick and scrub it with a very mild bleach or vinegar solution then bake it in the oven at 250* for about 20-30 mins. Be sure to scrub it off again before finally placing it into you enclosue. (just to wash off any parts that may have burnt a little)

Hope this helps.

If its convienent to move it, then by all means move it, until you figure out if those are crickets or not. if you have no place to put it just watch, be carefull. if they really do look like crickets, they probbaly are! theres nothing here in BC that slightly resembles the crickets i buy at the store, and that would lay eggs in tree branches (although there are other nasty things you dont want in with your frogs!) could be different where you are, but sounds like you have baby crix! lol congrats...sorta

Hey,

I'm from Ontario, and it sounds like baby crickets to me also. What kind of substrate are you using? I sometimes get them in my cages with peat moss, and for some reason they love hoping in the water dishes! If you had a pic that would really help! And if it is baby crickets I wouldnt really worry about taking your frog out, but if its better for you go for it!
