New tank...possibly stressed leo? help

Angus_8 Dec 21, 2003 01:59 PM

Ok, so for the past 7 months I've been keeping my male in a sweater box with his heat pad and light. I decided a 10 gallon tank would look nicer and the heat pad would work better on it, so I bought one and set up his tank perfectly and put him in. Now the problem is, I think hes stressed. The reason I think he might be stressed is in the sweater box, he couldnt see through the walls and now he can, I guess hes not used to it. He ate a superworm the other day, but doesnt have much of an appettite, which is probably from being a little stressed. What can I do to lower his stress level? I was thinking of just putting in a big bowl of mealies and leaving him completely alone for a couple days? Would that work?
Thanks for any input
Mac

Just giving him a little time to settle in will help. He should adjust okay. If you want to help him adjust faster putting a background up could help and maybe something on the sides too so only the front glass is clear. Like a plain black paper or something to make it seem more secure to him. HTH,

The easiest and cheapest way to deal with this is to buy a sheet of bristol board from the local dollar store. I paid $1 (canadian) for a full sheet, and there's enough there to cover the sides and back of a 10 gallon. Plus, you can pick whatever colour you want. It's cheaper than a background, and if it gets damaged, it's easy enough to replace. It's probably a good idea until it gets used to its new tank.
