Is it ok to use grocery store grade paprika to feed darts or do you have to buy a special type? I wasn't sure if there are any preservatives that might be harmful to darts.

Thanks,
Ken

I bought mine from the grocery store. It lists the only ingredient as "100% pure powdered paprika". So I suppose it doesn't have any preservatives. By the way, the brand is "Spice World". Hope this helps.

grocery store brands often have silicon dioxide added to help it keep flowing. probably does not hurt the frogs, but I buy mine at the health food store just to be safe.

Why do you add paprika and how do you do it? Do you just dust the flies or do you put it in the fly culture?

Paprika is used to enhance the yellows and oranges in dart frogs. I've heard of both methods being used. Either mix the paprika in with the fly medium or mix it with vitamin dust in a 1:1 ratio and dust your flies with it.

I bought the cheap hungarian paprika from bulkfoods.com

I used to dust flies with it every third feeding or so and got descent results (subjective of course). But since the stuff is so cheap I just throw a bunch in the fly food and it still seems to work just as well.
