Super worm care sheet

Finnigan Dec 21, 2003 04:44 PM

Anyone know where I can find a caresheet for supers? I'm tired of buying by the dozen, however I have found that establishing a colony of these is far more difficult then it is for mealworms.

Thanks

Here is a link to a simple care sheet. It doesn't give a lot of detail but the basics are there.

It is hard to get the worms to pupate. I found if you put a full grown worm in an empty 35mm film can it will pupate after a week or so.

They take longer to get started than mealworms but once you get them going the last longer than mealies because they are not always turning into beetles.

Good luck

Little trick i picked up for getting them to pupate is to give the isolated ones a heat source to make the temp about 85. I had some isolated a week or two and nothing was happening except one died. So i put them back with my feeders (bought a 1000 figureing i'd start breeding them) and put new ones into isolation. Put some flex watt under the container. Within 2 days about a third of them turned into the pre-beetle-alien-looking things. And now about 4 days into it about half are turning into aliens.
