My new incubator...

-12x12x24 Barr's cage
-18" (24 watt) Zoo Med UTH on top of the cage
-Alife thermostat for heat control (until the new Ranco arrives)
-Perlite incubation medium
-cup o' water for extra humidity
-digital and standard thermostats

This should hold about 100 beardie eggs. If it works well, I'll probably be converting 11 more of the cages into incubators.

This girl is ready to drop any minute now. The hovabator is full of beardie and pictus eggs. I had no choice!

This is our Coral X Gold/Orange from Sundial Reptile. We picked him up on a trade from someone who bought him from Sundial. He's quite young still - but doing the job!

Remember I said she was about to lay eggs any minute now?

I posted the last picture, walked back over to the cage, and she had layed the first egg!

Wish I had put time stamps on these photos LOL!

Pretty cool. I guess she was just about to bust when you took the first pic.

Exactly where in the cage did you put the UTH? I made 2 incubators pretty much the same idea as that in dorm sized fridges, but I paid much more for a thermostat for them. I was thinking about getting those cheaper ones, but desided against it. How do those Alife thermostates keep the temps inside? Good Luck with the babies!! How old was that male you used to father them?

The UTH is not inside the cage at all, but on top of it, on the outside. The Barr's cages are only 1/4" plastic, so the heat transfers through really easy. Nice radient heat.

"How do those Alife thermostates keep the temps inside?"

In past experience, they are generally good for about a 2-4 degree variance. I set them for 84, and I see 82-86 on a digital thermometer. Close enough for Beardies. But... With the Rancos I use on other cages and incubators, I can set it for 84 - and the lowest it will ever drop is 83 (and never go higher than 84).

"How old was that male you used to father them?"

He's right around 10 months old, and pushing 400 grams today. He fathered his first clutch at 9 months, and all 33 eggs were fertile.
