Since it has been so quiet these past few days, I uploaded some pictures..

I haven't posted any pictures of my Tegu yet. So, here it is. It dropped its tail from stupidity on my behalf (You might have read the previous post where I asked about it.)

I got it about maybe 5 weeks ago (I guess I'm not the best at keeping time records). It was kind of jumpy when I got it ('it' because it's unsexed) It would try to run and would open its mouth in an attempt to bite. But by the third day, he quit trying to bite (But would still flee into his hole most of the times I tried to open his cage.) By the end of the week, he was as docile as can be.

I feel really lucky because he's not like a lot of the tegus I've read about on this board where they get really nippy at this size because they're always so hungry. I HAVE gotten bit by him, but only when I was dumb and trying to feed him by hand, without hemostats or tweasers. Never drew blood yet, though.

He's a very hungry lizard, too. In one feeding, he'll easily down 20 or more crickets (Dusted, of course), and by the end of the day, he'll be looking for more (Although, I only feed him once per day.)

He also gets fuzzy mice. They're a bit on the large size and I wouldn't have even dared to give them to him, except the petstore had done it and he LOVED them. I'm amazed he manages to get them down (It's not SUPER big, but it's bigger than what I would have expected him to be able to eat. And it's nice because they are more nutritional than pinkies.)

One time I had two fuzzies and gave him one. I was kind of sitting there with the other in my hand, kind of resting on my knee. As soon as he finished it, he shot up my leg and took it before I even realized what was going on.

This Tegu is by far my favorite animal to date. I've had Beardeds before, and they're praised for their personality, but I think this Tegu blows them away. He's so much more active and inquisitive than the Beardeds ever were.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Just wanted to post impressions or whatever.

Can't wait until he gets larger so I can take him out to the lake or something to swim (With a leash, of course.) And then I won't have to worry about the dogs biting him, either. If anything, I'll have to worry about him going after the dogs. (They're smaller [bleep]zu sized dogs.)

Aww how cute! I love the first picture. I want a Tegu sooooooooooooooooooooo bad but looks like I'll have to wait until the '04 babies hatch, since I want to aquire one as young as possible. Plus it'll give me time to build a cage. Does anyone have a Tegu cage that is not rectangular in shape? I have plenty of room for a 8 X 4 cage, but depending on how I set it up in the room, it might turn out more..cubish, but with the same amount of floor space. Just wondering if this will pose heating problems i.e tougher to get a good temp gradient? Maybe I'll make it L shaped, I havent decided yet
