another bulb gone and a question

trevoro Dec 21, 2003 07:38 PM

I've had my beardie for about 5 1/2 months now and have gone through 3 heat bulbs now. My T-rex MVB bulb just went today(less than 2 months old). It did flicker on an off every once in a while but I thought maybe it was normal. The other 2 were Zoomed repti halogen. Both were supposed to be excellent quality. I have two 5.5 inch clamp lamps and have switched between both so I'm sure that both my lamps aren't faulty. My guess at the problem is that the lamp is too small and making bulbs too hot and prematurely destroying them. Anyone else have an opinion on this? Should I get a new lamp?

Thanks.

Think you hit the nail on the head. Merc Vapors I always use 10" clamp lamps. And not the ones that have the top squished in. The halogens I use in a 8" clamp lamp. And if you go halogen don't bother with the reptile ones. They are the same as the ones at home depot but cost 3X as much. I like the phillips flood. The ones that are used for outdoor security light. Be careful though you will need a lower watt bulb.

Before I got smart and started buying regular halogen's I didn't have one of those Zoomed pieces of crap last me over 3 months. I have gone through 4 of them now. Never touched the bulb with bare hands or anything. I think the biggest problem with them is the they just suck !
