help feeding a Dumeril's Monitor

can i feed a Dumeril's Monitor on dusted crickets its hole life

It wouldnt be advisable. Crickets can sustain smaller reptiles, but to maintain the body mass of something larger, I wouldnt want to imagine the amount of crickets it would take. Its just impractical.

Not to mention that once they reach a certain size, most medium and large monitors will just ignore crickets. You might be OK with a roach-only diet though. But anything with an adult size over 24" will probably do much better on a rodent-based diet. Billy

There are several species that can live happily on insects their whole lives, but most will benefit from some animal protein in the form of appropriate sized rodents. Ackies, Timors, Kimberlys, Pilbara's are all small monitors that could do well on insects for a lifetime. Tree monitors (prasinus and beccari) could conceivably do well on them as well, but an animal with the body mass of an adult Dum's might suffer in the long run. Perhaps you should look at dwarf tegus as well. Billy
