Louisiana laws on hot herps

RMar Dec 22, 2003 01:14 AM

Is anyone familiar with Louisiana law, on the ownership of hot herps. i have kept Burmese, Redtails, and other misc. nonvenemous for several years now and am interested in attempting venemous. Any info would be appreciated. Also this question may truly show my ignorance but here goes. Is there a market for venom. I wondered at the possibility to offset the cost of feeding housing.

Thanks in advance

At this time, venomous reptiles are not regulated at the state level in Louisiana. However, the Louisiana Reptile & Amphibian Task Force is currently working on implementing a law that will regulate all venomous snakes and large constrictors over 12ft in length. More than likely, this will be a permit system of sorts, and may include a grandfather clause. Nevertheless, at this very monent, there is no restriction on keeping venomous reptiles in Louisiana.

However, some of the municipalities do regulate the keeping of venomous reptiles, depending on your Parish of residence.

Feel free to e-mail me for further info.
