Differing growth rates

trinacliff Dec 22, 2003 10:04 AM

Hi there...I have three RES that are about 1 1/2" to 2" long. One of my three is significantly smaller than the other two. It's not a terrible difference, but enough to notice. Is this anything to worry about???

Thanks
Kristen

HI

I do not t hink that there is anything wrong with your turtle. I have two res and one is alot bigger than the other and they are the same age. I think it may just be because the smaller one has different eating habits and probaly eats less.

i would be willing to say the same because i got two of them about 3 months ago and the one has actually grown a little faster than the other one and it eats a little more so i would make that assumption.

There are several factors, consumption of food obviously, whether the turtles are male or female, store bought or caught in the wild. Ive noticed that wild caught turtles grow a lot faster that store bought often due to wild hatchlings being healthier when they hatch.(Depending on the breeder)

I 've experienced this with my RES. It turns out one was a female and one a male, the female's tend to grow a lot bigger then the males.
