Is a non constant temp OK for incubation?

shmusha Jun 03, 2003 06:37 PM

I keep my Leos in my garage where they seem to thrive well. I have my first clutch to deal with now and was going to leave them in the tank for incubation. The garage maintains a temp from 80-85 currently. I assume since in the wild there is always a daily temp variation that this should be fine even though incubators are kept at a steady temp for some reason. Any input? Thanks!

Im no expert on the subject, but in the wild leos lay their eggs underground where there is actually little variation in air temp. Just keep in mind when there arent constant temps, deformities are likely to occur and that wont be fun. Good luck, maybe somebody can elaborate.

A constant temp is the best way to go... just one thing to watch out for... any CONSTANT temp over 90 degrees may cause heat stress and produce "hot females" whom will never re-produce

Not really a big deal, but I read that hot females actually just take longer to reach sexual maturity, but can reproduce. Whats your source on that?
